About European Development Days (EDD) 2022
The European Development Days (EDD) are Europe’s leading forum on international partnerships. Organised by the European Commission, the forum brings key actors together to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
For the 2022 edition, EDD will focus on “Global Gateway: Building Sustainable Partnerships for a Connected World”. Global Gateway is the new European Strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport and strengthen health, education and research systems across the world.
In 2022, the EDD will be a hybrid event. This means that it will take place both physically at the Brussels EXPO, as well as online.
Alongside the thematic sessions, EDD 2022 will have a series of Special Events focusing on key aspects of the Global Gateway. Through those high-level sessions, we will explore the geopolitical, financial and geographical aspects of this year’s theme. Our expert panels will discuss the Global Gateway flagships’ impact in Africa, Latin America, Central Asia, the Indo-Pacific and the EU Neighbourhood. In addition to these Global Gateway sessions, there will also be additional events on key topics such as resilient health systems, and food security.
Session Update
Our experts will be participating in 5 sessions during EDD 2022. The sessions are organized around the following themes – quality education, open and secure internet, and security of supply chains and development of local manufacturing. The session on quality education will discuss the progress we have made under DISH alongside the ICC TFV approach to Peace Education, the ACP-EU Culture programme on cultural and creative approaches to the socio-economic development of ACP countries.
The session will take place both physically at the Brussels EXPO, as well as online from June 21-22, 2022.

Venue
This year the EDD will be held at Brussels Expo (Palais 7 and 11), Avenue De Miramar / Miramarlaan, B-1020 Brussels.
The opening hours of the event will be:
- Tuesday 21 June 2022 from 08:00 to 20:00
- Wednesday 22 June 2022 from 08:00 to 18:00
How to get there
Brussels Expo is easily reachable by public transportation and by car.
The closest station is Heysel/Heizel, which can be reached by metro, tram and bus.
- By metro: Take metro line 6 towards Roi Baudouin and get off at the ‘Heysel’ stop.
- By tram: Take tram 7 and get off at ‘Heysel,’ which is the terminus. You can also take tram 9 stop ‘Stade Roi Baudouin’ or tram 3 stop ‘Avenue de Meysse,’ both of which are nearby.
- By bus: Take bus 83 and get off at the ‘Heysel’ stop.
If you come by car, please park at Parking C. It is accessible from the motorway (junction 7A) and is connected to Brussels Expo via a bridge for pedestrians.

Badge pick up
We highly recommend picking up your badge in advance, if that is possible. Entering the venue will be faster if you already have your badge.
Once your online registration has been approved and you have received your QR code, you can pick up your badge at the DG International Partnerships Info Point, Rue de la Loi 45-47, 1049 Brussels (entry on corner of rue de la Loi and rue de la Science).
The opening hours of the Info Point will be:
- Monday 13 – Friday 17 June 2022 from 08:30 to 18:00
You can also collect your badge at Brussels Expo during the opening hours of the event on 21 and 22 June. We suggest leaving plenty of time as there are likely to be queues, particularly at the beginning of the first day.
Please make sure to bring your confirmation email with QR code and your ID/passport with picture. Onsite registration is not possible. The deadline for registration for onsite participation is 8 June. The deadline for registration for online participation is 17 June.
Security
Every person accessing the venue will have to go through a security scan.
Silent conference
Every participant will need an infrared headset to be able to hear sessions. Once you have passed the security check, you can pick up yours at the entrance, which you will have to return at the end of the day when leaving the building. If you have a hearing aid, please contact [email protected].
Health & Safety measures
Facemasks and hydro-alcoholic gel dispensers will be available at the venue.
Since 23 May, masks are no longer mandatory in Belgium, except in healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, doctors and pharmacies.
Wearing a face mask remains recommended on public transport, in indoor areas, in very crowded areas and in places where the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be guaranteed. The use of FFP2 facemasks is recommended for medically vulnerable people.
Interpretation
All sessions taking place in the Studios will be interpreted to French and English. Passive interpretation from Spanish will also be available (you can speak Spanish, but English and French will not be translated into Spanish).
The sessions in Studio 1 will include International Sign Language interpretation and live transcription in English.
Catering
Food trucks will be available between Palais 7 and Palais 11 throughout the two days, where you can buy breakfast and lunch.
Two coffee corners will offer coffee and tea, and water fountains are available in different areas of the venue. You might want to bring a water bottle with you.

The access code to the WiFi network will be printed on your badge.
Toilets
There are 3 blocs of toilets in P7 and 1 in P11. Each bloc has a toilet for people with a disability, as well as a unisex toilet.

Online participation
Registered participants will be able to watch the event live, ask questions to the speakers, connect with other participants and much more. You will receive your personal link to access the live event in the final confirmation e-mail.
